Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I start exercising now, especially as I get older?

It’s never too late! Regular exercise can help you live longer, stay independent and feel stronger and more confident. Strength, balance, flexibility and coordination work together to keep your body and mind in great shape and reduce the risk of falls, injury and chronic disease.

I already exercise, so why do I need a personal trainer?

Even if you’re active, a personal trainer helps you train smarter, not just harder. I’ll assess your strengths, weaknesses and goals, then create a personalised plan that improves technique, challenges you safely and ensures you get the most from your effort. It’s about efficiency, results and staying injury-free.

How is your personal training different?

I understand what it’s like to exercise in midlife and beyond – I’m 52 myself and focus on the challenges adults often face, like changing energy levels, menopause, reduced bone density and stiff joints. I create personalised plans that are comfortable, challenging, and designed to work for your body and goals, so you can stay strong, fit and moving well.

Will I have to give up chocolate and wine?

Not if you don’t want to! I’m a big fan of good food and drink myself, so my approach is never about restriction. We focus on making small, sustainable choices that support your goals while still letting you enjoy the foods and drinks you love. Fitness and nutrition should enhance your life, not take the fun out of it.

Do I need a gym to get started?

Not at all! Strength training can be done at home with bodyweight, simple household items or small equipment like dumbbells and resistance bands. Outdoor workouts are also great. If you decide to try a gym later, I’ll guide you every step of the way, starting with familiar exercises and progressing at your pace.

I’m interested in personal training, but is it affordable?

Investing in your health is one of the best decisions you can make – and it doesn’t have to break the bank. I offer flexible options to fit different budgets, and working with a trainer often saves time, reduces frustration and maximises results, making it more cost-effective than guessing what to do on your own. Think of it as an investment in long-term strength, health and confidence.

Can I train with a friend?

Yes, no problem! If you and your friend are at a similar level and working towards the same goals, then I can create a programme that suits you both. And if your needs are a little different, that’s fine too: we can tailor the sessions so everyone gets what they need. Let’s have a chat!

I’d like to train with you, but I am away quite a lot. Is the programme flexible?

We can work with that! We can design a programme that fits around your schedule, combining in‑person sessions with simple workouts you can do wherever you are. And if training while you’re away isn’t always possible, we’ll plan around that too. The aim is to keep things flexible, realistic and stress‑free.

What qualifications do you have?

I hold Level 2 gym instructor and Level 3 personal training qualifications from Study Active. Study Active is a UK-based CIMPSA Trainer Provider partner and is accredited by Active IQ, meaning it is internationally recognised and regulated by Ofqual. My qualification allows me to train clients on a one-to-one basis, design personalised fitness programs, conduct fitness assessments, provide nutritional advice and lead fitness classes.
